Had a really depressing or extremely skimpy than expected test score? Few tips to stay positive

We all have been in a scenario where we had a stroke of really hard luck in a test. We might or might not have been plenarily prepared and the questions would be forming a mind-boggling level of difficulty to answer. And thus, this is the time when we actually know that consequently, our score would be quite deficient. We usually develop a feeling of sadness, frustration, and worry. We would even find ourselves quite useless.

At this point in time, doing things we love (like singing, dancing, reading, drawing, etc.)  would help us to cope up with the situation. Some kind of physical exertion (like outdoor sports, exercise, trekking, swimming, etc.) could also be quite helpful.

So, in this post, I will suggest you few things which would help you inspirit back to life.

1. Listen to music

Music is an art-form without any language. Be it any person on the globe, there would be that one song which would transfer him/her to the next world, dimensions away. We should listen to such songs, which really touches our soul. Moreover, music can enhance our performance, our skillset, and our sleeping patterns. It is proved and very well understood, that music can relieve oneself. Any kind of low theme music or lyrics should be avoided on the spot too, as it may worsen the condition.

2. Pamper Yourself

What’s better than getting a king’s life… Get yourself massages, bubble baths and all those things which actually make you feel happy and complacent. Shopping and dining out is a great help too…

3. Laughter is the best medicine

Be it hanging out with friends or watching our favorite comedy sitcom, humor can do wonders. Sometimes a little pinch of laughter or even a smile is all that we need to cheer up. We all know that one person, talking with whom, we really laugh our guts out. Old school sitcoms and comic books are pure magic in these cases. They’ve got the perfect punch required to lift us up. We would even feel more positive than ever. According to biologists, this sense of feeling cheered up is the meager flow of cortisol, adrenaline, and oxytocin in the bloodstream. Still, tough job to keep this flow going on, right?

4. Physical Exercise

We know that exercise helps us to step up our health and energy, but less do we know that it also helps us to boost our confidence and happiness. Doing a little bit of skipping or running is a great way to go. An hour of running adds five to our lifetime, so its an all-rounder deal anyways. So at the end of a workout routine, we wouldn’t just feel a little stronger and healthier but also positive, calm and mentally stress-free.

5. Talk to Friends

Sharing our thoughts, exchanging opinions and understanding others’ viewpoints is a way to not only just feel better, but also to analyze the mistakes that we might’ve done. In this method, if a friend, who has performed better than us is chosen up, we can also get guidance from him/her and know about our shortcomings. But any random chit-chats with our close friends also give us a sense of positivism and well being. So basically, our talks with a friend can have a huge range when the topic is to make us feel better.

6. Talk with Your Teachers

A teacher is not only the one who shows us the path but also guides us at each and every step. Hence, even if our performance was not up to the mark, we can seek guidance and suggestions of our teachers, and learn a lot from those mistakes as life will have a ton of opportunities waiting for us and we wouldn’t want the history to repeat. Getting a teacher who looks forward to helping his/her students is surely a blessing, but still, every teacher would be kind enough to help us know our mistakes and the proper way to be prepared for the next time.

7. Self Motivation and Setting an aim

Most importantly we must agree upon the fact that a single test paper cannot govern our life. So accordingly, we should not consider any test more valuable than us. Further, we must not enter a zone of thinking less and cursing ourselves. And as they say, ‘its never too late’, so we have a great time to prepare and grab such opportunities in the future, which may not be the same as before.

A harsh test can have a very positive effect on us too. We can easily know our weak spots and work on them separately. Afterward, the first thing to do would be to promise ourselves, that we will score a higher grade the next time. We should have a proper study routine at fixed timings. Making a timetable is really helpful, as it gives us a well planned and disciplined lifestyle.

8. Improving the Study Habits For Future Tests

For a substantial growth in our academics, changing and trying different learning methods is a very important factor. Our brain gets bored upon the monotonous way of studies and the learning process becomes limited to a certain extent. Hence trying varied styles of learning would keep on pushing our brain’s performance to new benchmarks.

Few methods of effective learning are:

a. Study little portions at a time: 97% of the high school and university level textbooks are published with subsections design. That is the actual amount of information that our brain can process and learn efficiently at a time. Studying more than that can lead to lower accuracy and efficiency in learning. So we should study one subsection at a time and test ourselves on the same topic, at the same time, before moving ahead. Thereafter, a short break before jumping to the next topic is also recommended.

b. Convert the chapter into a quiz format: When we finish any chapter, converting it into a quiz format is an easy job and would help in better retention and recall at the time of a test. Moreover, it is also very beneficial in the revision of that particular chapter. We can also exchange these chapter-wise quizzes with a friend who makes these too, and thus we develop a better hold of concepts. A large circle of friends making these quizzes can help us to train ourselves for time management in solving questions too.

So to conclude, failures and disappointments are in the paths of every individual and chaos is a ladder, it’s our choice whether we succumb and yield or we learn from it and be better prepared than ever.
